(Rock Springs) – The Generals claimed sole possession of
first place in Region IX on Wednesday with a hard fought, overtime victory
against Western Wyoming Community College.
Western Wyoming saw itself in an eleven point half-time deficit, but
battled back, tying the game with thirty-five seconds remaining and forcing
overtime. In the extra period the
Generals faced a two point deficit before Victor Bermudez nailed a 3-point
basket to give the Generals a one point lead.
Ron Mvouika nailed four consecutive free-throws in the last minute of
the period to help the Generals escape with an 86-84 victory, improving them to
22-5 on the year, 11-2 in Region IX play.
Mvouika had a game high 34 points on 10/19 shooting,
including 4/9 from beyond the arc and 10/12 from the foul line. Mvouika also had a game high 12 rebounds and
dished out 4 assists. Victor Bermudez
netted 21 points for the Generals, including 6 three-point field goals bringing
his total on the season to 88. The sharp
shooting Bermudez also grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. Sophomore forward Brandon Pines chipped in 16
points for the Generals, including a thunderous tip dunk, while pulling down 7
rebounds.
Sheridan College hosts Dawson College on Saturday, February
16th, at 5:00 pm in their last regular season home contest at the
Bruce Hoffman Golden Dome. Before
tip-off the Generals will be honoring the sophomore class, and at half-time the
new Sheridan College Hall of Fame members will be inducted.
