#15-ranked Generals 11-1 after weekend split

The Sheridan College Generals finished 11-1 heading into the holiday break after a weekend split to begin Wyoming Conference Action.

The Generals, ranked #15 in the nation, hosted rival Casper College last Friday night and played well in a very tough & physical game. At halftime, the Generals managed to hold a slim 38-33 lead, and after Casper briefly gained the lead early in the second half, the Generals began firing on all cylinders, eventually pulling out the 78-67 victory. For the game, sophomore Jarrell Crayton played great with 23 points and 12 rebounds, and sophomore PG Kendrick Morse chipped in 17 pionts and a team-high 8 assists.

On Saturday, the Generals played another rival game vs. Gillette College and suffered defeat for the first time of the season. The Generals started slow and dug a deep hole, eventually being down by 13 with 8 minutes remaining in the game before a furious rally saw the Generals tie the game at 87-87 with 15 seconds remaining. Unfortunately, on the last play of the game, the Generals were called for a foul and Gillette hit two free throws to seal the victory.

The Generals are now 11-1 on the season and ranked #15 in the nation heading into the break. Games will resume on January 7th when Sheridan faces Central Wyoming, and then face Western Wyoming on the 8th.

#25 ranked Generals stay unbeaten, win two at Holiday Inn Classic!

The #25-ranked SC Generals won two more games this past weekend to stay unbeaten on the year at 10-0. The Generals hosted their last tournament, the Holiday Inn Classic, with conference opening up this coming weekend.

On Friday night, the Generals played Colorado Christian University and exploded to a 52-18 halftime lead, and kept the pressure on throughout the 2nd half before winning 103-34. Rolands Narkis (Latvia) had a career-high 23 points for the Generals, going 7 of 12 from the floor, 4 of 8 from 3pt land, and 5 of 6 from the FT line. The Generals out-rebounded CCU 37-14.

On Saturday night, the Generals faced Midwest Elite (who lost at the buzzer to Gillette College on night 1, 98-96). Midwest did a good job of slowing the tempo down and hitting big shots in the first half, leading throughout the majority of the half before Sheridan went on a quick run at the end to lead 37-28. In the second half, Sheridan's depth and conditioning proved to be too much for Midwest, as the Generals eventually won 103-75. Sophomore Kendrick Morse had a season-high 22 points to lead the Generals, and Matt Glover had 16 points and 9 rebounds as well.

The Generals begin Wyoming Conference play this weekend when they host Casper College (Friday night 7:30 pm) and Gillette College (Saturday night 7:30pm). Both games will be streamed live online at http://www.scgenerals.com/.

Sheridan Finalizes Recruiting Class with German Forward

Sheridan, WY – Sheridan College head men's basketball coach Steve Smiley announced today the signing of Walter-Klingenbeck-Realschule forward Jermaine Julien Lippert to a national letter of intent.

Lippert, a 6-8, 230 pound forward from Munich, Germany will have an immediate impact on the Sheridan College program. In 2008-09 Jermaine played for Fc Bayern Muenchen where he averaged 23 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game in leading them to a quarterfinals appearance in their post-season play. Last year Jermaine played with MTSV Schwabing where he continued to put up great numbers averaging 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game. His points per game along with rebounds per game where ranked first on the team in those categories. Upon completion of his time at Sheridan College, Jermaine will continue to play collegiately in the United States, as he is already verbally committed to NCAA Division 1, Montana State University in Bozeman, MT.

“Jermaine is a very talented and explosive player and he is very unique in that he has a great skill set for a player of his size. Jermaine could play anywhere from a small forward to a post player-type of position, but he’s naturally a small forward that can play both on the perimeter and in the post, and he will have the ability to be a huge asset on the defensive end of the floor because of his size, quickness, and overall athleticism. Jermaine should have an instant impact on our program and we’re excited for him to arrive so we can begin to work with him”

Generals sign German guard Johannes Kriegereit!

Coach Smiley had this to say about Johannes: “We’re really excited to get a player of Johannes’ ability. He’s a very talented player that is a traditional point guard, but can also play a shooting guard because of his size, athleticism, and ability to score. Johannes is also a very mature player and has a great feel for the game, so we’re thrilled that he’s going to be a General for the coming year! He should have an immediate impact on our program.”

Khion has been named First Team All-Northern California, ESPN RISE CalHiSports.com Boys State Athlete of the Week, All-Bay Area Team-Division 1, All-East Bay Basketball First Team, 2009 MaxPreps All-Tournament Team-National Division, San Francisco Chronicle’s All Metro 2nd-Team, and Top 125 Easy Bay Prep Athletes of the Year of 2010.

Coach Smiley had this to say about the newest arrival to the Generals: “Khion is one of the most well-known recruits that Sheridan College has signed in the past several years. To be the team leader in points, rebounds, and steals and 2nd in assists on a team that won the Northern California State Title and lost in the CIF State Title in the biggest classification in the state is very impressive. Khion had a great senior year, capped off by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds in the State Championship game vs Westchester, which has 5 NCAA D1 signees, and he produced at that level against some of the best competition in the state throughout the year. He plays his best when his best is needed, and that is the sign of a champion. Khion is also a very good student, a great kid, and is known for his toughness and physicality on the court. He will have a chance to contribute immediately, and we’re absolutely thrilled to get a player of his stature!”

Sheridan Snags Washington Standout, Malachi Roberts!

Sheridan Snags Washington Standout!!!!

Sheridan, WY – Sheridan College head men's basketball coach Steve Smiley announced today the signing of Malachi Roberts to a national letter of intent.

Roberts was a three year starter in basketball and football at Eastmont High. He was the Big Nine Conference Athlete of the Year and holds a 3.6 GPA.
“We’re extremely excited to get a player of Malachi’s caliber to become a member of the Generals. We lost two very good sophomore wings in JR Cadot and Steven Ivory, so Malachi will definitely help us fill the hole. Malachi was extremely productive as a senior, averaging almost 25ppg and also getting almost 8 rebounds per game. He’s very explosive and athletic, he has a nice jump shot and we really like his skill level. The best part about Malachi is that he plays hard and he works hard on & off the floor. He’s a tremendous student that takes a lot of pride in his academics. He will get the chance to compete immediately for playing time.”
Roberts is the 5th player to sign with Sheridan College in 2010. He joins 6-5 forward Robert Heyer, 6-7 forward Rolands Narkis, 6-4 guard Matt Glover, and 6-7 post Lamont Prosser in the 2010 Generals recruiting class.

Heyer finished his career at Worland High School with 1339 points and 860 rebounds.
“We’re thrilled to sign Robert and have him become a part of our program in the coming years. Robert is first, and foremost, a tremendous individual and will be a great asset to our campus. He’s a hard-worker, very disciplined, and a very humble young man. In terms of his basketball ability, we think that Robert has a great skill set and his best basketball days are still in front of him. He played the post position at Worland, but will need to transition his game to the forward spot in college. After he visited and played with our team, we were pleasantly surprised with his skill set from the perimeter and we believe he’ll make the transition in a short amount of time. His toughness, strength, and leadership abilities will be of great value to our program.”
Heyer is the 4th player to sign with Sheridan College in 2010. He joins 6-7 forward Rolands Narkis, 6-4 guard Matt Glover, and 6-7 post Lamont Prosser in the 2010 Generals recruiting class.

Generals sign 6'7" Latvian forward, Rolands Narkis to LOI!

SHERIDAN COLLEGE LANDS LATVIAN FORWARD
Sheridan, WY – Sheridan College head men's basketball coach Steve Smiley announced today the signing of Rolands Narkis to a national letter of intent.
Nakis, a 6-7, 210-pound forward from Latvia played his club ball for Team Liepaja. For the 2009-2010 season Narkis averaged 15 points per game, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks while leading his team to an 18-6 season. In the playoffs Narkis took his game to the next level averaging 18.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 3 blocks per game. Rolands has scored over 30 points four times throughout the year with his best performance coming vs. Jugla when he had 35 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, and two steals. In 2009-2008 playing for Team Liepaja Rolands averaged 13.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.
“Rolands was actually the first player that committed to us in the fall, so we’ve been following his progress closely this year. He has great size for a forward, can play both the small forward and power forward positions, and has a great shot from outside and is a very good athlete. We’re thrilled to get a player of his caliber that is as versatile as he is. He has played well in big games, and was the leading scorer in the Under-18 Latvian Championships this past year when he scored 37 points and had 15 rebounds. He will compete immediately for playing time.”
Narkis is the 3rd player to sign with the Generals this year. He joins 6-7 center Lamont Prosser and 6-4 guard Matt Glover in the 2010 Sheridan College Recruiting Class.

Generals sign big-time PG out of California, Matt Glover (Tustin, HS)!

Sheridan, WY – Sheridan College head men's basketball coach Steve Smiley announced today the signing of California native Matthew Glover to a national letter of intent.
Glover, a 6-4, 190-pound guard from Tustin High School in Tustin, California, averaged 18.6 points per game along with 6.1 assists and 7.5 rebounds while leading his team to a 20-7 record. Glover was selected All-League First Team. As well as, All-Orange County Second Team and All-CIF Second Team. Glover scored over 20 points in 14 games this year including a triple double performance vs. University High School where Glover dropped 40 points, pulled down 13 rebounds, and dished out 11 assists.
““Matt is a very unique player, in that he has great size for a guard and can play multiple positions. We plan on playing him at both guard spots, and realistically, he could play some small forward if needed because of his size & strength. Matt is a true point guard in the long run, though, and will be a match-up problem on both sides of the ball. The thing that we really like about Matt is his great court vision to find other players, and he can create shots for himself when needed. He should have an immediate impact on our program. We’re thrilled to sign a player of his caliber, and he will be a great addition to our community because he is a great kid!”

Glover joins Lamont Prosser, a 6-8, 225-pound center as a member of Sheridan College’s 2010 recruiting class.

Coach Peralta had this to say about Prosser “Lamont has been an outstanding member of our school and of our team. In every respect, Lamont has exceed the standards that we set for our student-athletes. He has done his part to put himself in a position to succeed. I am very excited to see Lamont moving forward to continue his education and his basketball development at Sheridan College under Coach Smiley. I am confident Lamont is going to the right place."
At South Side High School Prosser averaged another double-double pouring in 18 points a game and hauling down 11 rebounds a game.

“We’re thrilled to have signed Lamont to become a member of the Generals for the next couple of years. I had the opportunity to see him play live this year, and was impressed. When he came on his visit to campus, he took his game to an even higher level and really played well against our guys. He has a unique skill set and is able to score in a variety of different ways, and his size and strength will really help us out down low. The greatest thing about Lamont, however, is that he is a great kid and really embodies the type of student-athlete that we want in our program. We are thrilled to have him!”

Lamont Prosser is the first player to sign with Sheridan College for the 2010 recruiting class.

General finish Regular Season 24-6!

After earning the right to host the Region IX tournament on the 23rd the Sheridan College men’s basketball team had one last challenge facing them. It was to close out the regular season on the road at Western Wyoming at a very hostile environment. It was sophomore night and Labor Union Worker appreciation day at WWCC but the Generals took care of business and came home with a 94-83 victory. Sheridan jumped out to an early 13 point lead which was reduced to 6 at halftime but they quickly jumped out of the gates in the second half to push the lead back to double digits and coasted home from there. JR Cadot led the Generals with 20 points, Jarrell Crayton added 14, Sam Iwueke came off the bench to chip in 13 points, Idris Lasisi added 12 and Steven Ivory Jr. had 10 points. SC shot 60% from the field for the game and was +6 on the boards.

Generals win North Sub Region 9 Championship!

In one of the most exciting 14-point games on record, Sheridan (23-6, 7-1) grabbed a share of first place in Region 9’s North Sub-Region with a 104-90 victory at home against Northwest (Wyo.) College (22-6, 7-1). The excitement was generated by the sub-region tie-breaker system which forced the Generals to not only win the game, but by a margin of at least 14 points to earn the right to host the Region 9 Tournament. The task seemed imminently possible when Sheridan charged out to a 56-37 advantage at halftime, hitting 60% of its shots from the field (24/40). The Generals continued to hold a lead near the 20-point mark until Northwest began to drill a series of three-pointers, gradually reducing the deficit until pulling within 12 at 99-87 inside the two-minute mark. Suddenly, the game went from a double-digit lark to an intense nail-biting situation. When Northwest converted the second of two free throws with 15.7 seconds left, Sheridan was still up 102-90 but needed to score a bucket to host the tournament. With two seconds remaining, Jarrell Crayton was fouled and went to the line for a one-and-one, where he missed the opening toss. However, the ball bounced out to the center of the lane over the outreached hands of the two Trapper interior men and was tipped by a high-leaping J.R. Cadot. The ball bounced once and fell in at the buzzer. The put-back gave the 6-5 sophomore a career-high 32 points which he produced, by hitting 13 of 17 shots from the field, including all three of his trey attempts. Cadot also added 13 rebounds, seven on the offensive end, five assists with only one turnover, and one blocked shot. The outstanding performance under pressure circumstances was even more remarkable considering he had been notified just before game time that his father had passed away back home in the Bahamas. Omar McDade chipped in with 18 points, Jarrell Crayton added 17 and Idris Lassisi had 10 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds.

On Saturday night, the Generals continued to have a great defensive presence, shooting out to a 40-28 halftime lead vs. Miles College, en route to a 79-64 road victory.
