Sheridan College Men’s Basketball guard, Iakeem Alston, has
committed to the University of St. Bonaventure to continue his playing
career. The 6’0, 170 pound guard from
Baltimore, Maryland averaged 8.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game
last season for the Generals. Alston
helped lead the Generals to a 24-7 record while shooting 51% from the floor.
This past season the Bonnies went 14-15, while boasting a 7-9 record in the
prestigious Atlantic-10 conference. In
the 2011-2012 season, the Bonnies won the Atlantic-10 tournament and saw a lead
to Florida State disappear in the final minutes of their opening round NCAA
Tournament game.
“We’re
very excited that Iakeem has made this decision to further his career at St.
Bonaventure’s. Iakeem was recruited by Division 1 schools all across the
country but ultimately, St. Bonaventure’s was the perfect fit for Iakeem. His
desire to compete at a high level will be fulfilled in playing in a great
league, the A-10 (5 teams from that league made it to the NCAA tournament last
season), he will have a chance to have family and friends see him play as he
moves back to the East Coast, and he feels really good about their staff and
players. Head Coach Mark Schmidt has been extremely diligent in his recruitment
of Iakeem, and that definitely helped in Iakeem’s decision process.”
Alston is the third General to commit to a NCAA Division
institution this fall. The Generals will place Medicine Hat University (Canada)
this Friday, October 18th in an open exhibition game at 6:00 pm. The
Generals open their regular season on November 1st against
University of Great Falls at 7:00 pm.
