(Sheridan, WY) – As the Sheridan College General’s Men’s Basketball team continues to prepare for the upcoming season, one General has decided where his basketball career will continue next fall. Lamont Prosser (6’8 Sophomore Ft. Wayne, IN) has committed to play for Portland State for the 2012-2013 season. The Sporting News preseason super-sophomore averaged 12.1 points and 6.7 rebounds as a freshman for the Generals, helping to lead them to a second straight Region IX Championship game. Lamont came to Sheridan College from Charis Prep in Wilson, North Carolina where he played for Coach Carlos Peralta.
“I am so blessed for the opportunity to move on and play Division I basketball at Portland State,” Prosser commented about his decision. “I am excited to go to such a great school and to continue playing under a great coaching staff. With my decision I have the opportunity to focus on the upcoming season. We are ready this year to win a championship with the great team that we have put together, and all the work we have been doing in the preseason. With five sophomores returning, and an experienced coaching staff, if we continue to work hard, we have the chance to obtain some great goals this year.”
Coach Smiley had this to say about Lamont: “We feel really good about Lamont’s commitment to Portland State during this early period. This will allow Lamont to really focus on academics and basketball and not have to worry or be pressured any more by the recruiting process. Lamont will be playing for a very good coaching staff with Head Coach Tyler Geving and Lamont really feels good about his relationship that he has developed with lead recruiter Anthony Owens. Lamont has a chance to be a special player at Portland State and finish his last two years on a successful note.”
General fans will have the opportunity to continue to follow Prosser as he competes in Big Sky play, facing conference opponents such as Northern Colorado, Montana State, and Montana. The Generals begin their season on October 21st in Casper, Wyoming at the Casper College Jamboree. Preseason play will continue with a home exhibition game on October 27th before the Generals open their season at home against Williston State on November 1st at 7:00 pm.
